Axial exhaust model
The axial exhaust model has been developed as an advanced model of the condensing steam turbine. To return exhaust to the condenser, the traditional condensing steam turbine typically expels exhaust upward or downward in a direction at right angles to the shaft. This means, however, that in the layout of units there must be provision for adequate space in the upward or downward direction.
The SNM axial exhaust turbine has been designed to expel exhaust in the direction of the shaft, to which the condenser may then be directly coupled. The simple layout has substantially reduced construction costs and contributed significantly to cutting the cost and time of inspection and maintenance.
Advantages of axia exhaust steam turbines
1. Increased mechanical efficiency
As demonstrated by an analysis of exhaust hood internal flow, axial exhaust turbines offer reduced exhaust loss and greater efficiency as compared to upward and downward exhaust turbines.
2. Reduced Cost
- Advantages over downward exhaust turbines
- An axial exhaust turbine allows for a horizontal layout of the entire system, including the condenser, thereby greatly reducing the cost of both the foundation and building.
- Above-ground foundation concrete reduced by 30%. Total building floor area reduced by 75% and total volume by 67%.
- Advantages over upward exhaust turbines
- An axial exhaust turbine makes unnecessary the exhaust line and its design, parts, and frame, thereby greatly reducing costs.
Note: Measurements and figures are for reference only and do not apply in all cases.
3. Reduced lead time
- Advantages over downward exhaust turbines
- Axial exhaust turbines require less foundation concrete and a smaller building, thereby reducing both the cost and the lead time of construction
- Advantages over upward exhaust turbines
- Axial exhaust turbines reduce the cost of maintenance and the space required in which to perform it.
